The “Mighty 190” is a local promotion and tourism collaboration to promote the natural amenities and communities located in southeastern Tulare County along State Route 190. Known as the “Mighty 190”, SR-190 serves as the gateway to the only groves of giant sequoias (the largest trees in the world) located in Tulare County, and is highlighted by the world-famous Trail of 100 Giants.

2020 Contest Theme: Make your next trip mighty!

Show us your favorite ways you enjoy southern Tulare County, Success Lake, Sequoia National Forest, Giant Sequoia National Monument, Golden Trout Wilderness and anywhere along Highway 190 and/or the Great Western Divide Highway.

Prizes

GRAND PRIZE: The grand prize winner will receive a gift basket full of contributions from local businesses and other goodies.

 

The top images will be featured on the Mighty 190 website and other marketing material. The winners will be announced in mid-December 2020.

 

How to Enter

  • Entries will be accepted November 15 – December 15, 2020. Contest winners will be announced mid-December.

  • Entries will only be accepted via Instagram. Entrants must post an image using the hashtag #ExploretheMighty190 to enter. Posts should also include a caption describing where the photo was taken and why the photo fits this year's theme, “Make Your Next Trip Mighty!”

  • The first round of judging will be conducted by Mighty 190 committee members and its appointees.

  • The top images will be announced and voted on by number of "likes" on both Facebook and Instagram platforms. The image with the highest combined number of "likes" will be the winner of our grand prize.

Contest Rules (The Fine Print)

  1. Entries should show best practices for visiting national forests, monuments and public lands. Photographers and visitors are not allowed to harass wildlife or pick vegetation at any time. Touching or baiting wildlife is a form of harassment. Images containing illegal or prohibited activities will be disqualified. It is the entrant's responsibility for knowing and following National Forest and Monument regulations.

  2. The contest is open to all. Entrants under 18 years of age require the permission of a parent or guardian. By entering the contest, entrants under 18 years of age indicate that they have obtained the permission of a parent or guardian.

  3. Photos must be the original, unaltered work of the entrant.

  4. Photos must be taken within an area accessible by Highway 190 and Great Western Divide Highway. Western boundary is Highway 99, eastern boundary is California Hot Springs / Pine Flat.

  5. By submitting, the entrant agrees that they are the sole copyright owner of the image. By submitting an entry the entrant (in case of minors, the minor's parent/legal guardians) grants Mighty 190 Tourism Collaborative, or its authorized representatives and contractors, the right to reproduce, prepare derivative works of, distribute or display and use these materials in whole or in part, for government and non-government purposes, in any manner or media (whether now existing or created in the future), in perpetuity, and in all languages throughout the world. Use of this material shall include, but not be limited to, audiovisual programs; museum exhibits; websites; publications; product artwork; and project publicity. Additionally, entrants waive the right to inspect or approve any use of the material and any right to royalties or other compensation arising or related to the use of the material.
    The entrant holds harmless and release and forever discharge the Mighty 190 Tourism Collaborative and its authorized representatives and contractors from all claims, demands, and causes of action which they, their heirs, representatives, executors, administrators, or any other persons acting on their behalf or on behalf of their estate have or may have by reason of this authorization.
    The entrant agrees to indemnify and hold the Mighty 190 Tourism Collaborative, or its authorized representatives and contractors, harmless for any and all losses, claims, expenses, suits, costs, demands and damages or liabilities on account of personal injury, death, or property damages of any nature whatsoever and by whomsoever made, arising out of the activities associated with the project in which they are taking part.

  6. Size requirements: photos must be a minimum of 960 pixels wide.

  7. If selected as a winning image, the Entrant must be able to provide the highest resolution version of the image possible via email: explorethemighty190@gmail.com, as well as provide a phone number where we can contact the winner to make arrangements to pick up the gift basket from the Porterville Chamber of Commerce.

  8. Do not use Instagram to edit your image (no filters, tilt shift, color correction, brightness/contrast, etc). Use of editing features in the Instagram app may disqualify entries.

  9. Entries with watermarks may be disqualified.

  10. Participants may enter as many images as they wish.

  11. Photos posted to Instagram before July 2019 will be disqualified. If you want to enter a photo taken before July 2019, you must upload the photo as a new post on Instagram.
